Apprenticeship News
 In May of this year, KPM were  winners in the local Medium Size Business Sector, for the South West Skills Award. The award recognises the manufacturing company’s success in using  apprentices to meet the needs of its business and the community it operates in.  Rachel Suggett and Emma Moses received the award from BBC’s former news correspondent Kate Adie. KPM then went on to the National final, which was held by the  National Apprenticeship Service, on 17th July, in London, where they received the Highly  Commended award. KPM has a very close and open working  relationship with City  College Plymouth, and take a proactive role in supporting employees through their Apprenticeship .

Health and Safety Siminar & Exhibition 2010

On October 27th a Health and Safety Seminar and Exhibition was organised by Steve Wooding to promote Health and Safety throughout Plymouth & in particular within the Plymouth Manufacturing Group (PMG) which KPM is a member of.  

The seminar had two guest speakers, Jon Cooper of Bond Pearce Solicitors who talked about the   current legal Health and Safety climate.

The main speaker was Ken Woodward, who spoke about his tragic accident at Coca Cola as a result of the accident he was blinded and indirect injuries to the accident he also lost his sense of taste and smell, and became diabetic.  Ken spoke about the emotional impact the accident had on his life & the lives of his colleagues, family and friends.  Ken gave a powerful and sobering message to all that attended the seminar, and pointed out to all at the seminar that Health & Safety is          everyone’s responsibility & that we all have choices & opportunities to prevent accidents. As part of the day, local Business’ exhibited at the exhibition to promote their H&S services which they can provide to the Plymouth Manufacturing Group.

The day was a huge success which saw in excess of 450 delegates and exhibitors attend the seminar, with 25 local companies exhibiting on the day. 

The overriding message from the event was that Health and Safety is  everyone’s responsibility and that we CAN change the safety culture by not cutting corners and asking ourselves if the task is safe to do?
